Strength:  50 mg

  Composition: Each film coated tablet contains Sertraline Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Sertraline 50 mg.

Indications

  • Major Depressive Disorder
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • Panic Disorder
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)

Dosage and administration

  • Initial Treatment

Dosage for Adults

Major Depressive Disorder 50 mg once daily for 8 weeks. 50-200 mg/day upto 44 weeks.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

(OCD)

50 mg once daily initially (ranging from 50-200 mg daily according to patient’s response and periodical reassessment) upto 28 weeks. Same as initial dose upto 24 to 52

weeks.

Panic Disorder 25 mg once daily for one week. After one week 50 mg once daily (can be increased upto 200 mg daily) upto 28 weeks. Same as initial dose upto 24 to 52

weeks.

Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD) 25 mg once daily for one week. Followed by 50 mg once daily (can be increased upto 200 mg daily) upto 28 weeks. Same as initial dose upto 24 to 52

weeks.

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) 25 mg once daily for one week. Followed by 50 mg once daily (can be increased upto 200 mg daily) upto 20 weeks. Same as initial dose upto 20 weeks.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder Initially 50 mg once daily. Patients with minimum response can be increased upto 150 mg once daily (at 50 mg increments/ menstrual cycle). Medication can be given throughout the cycle or can be limited only to the luteal phase. The effectiveness has not been evaluated for more than 3 menstrual cycle.

Dosage for Pediatric population (Children and Adolescents)

In Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, SB-Serta treatment should be initiated with a dose of 25 mg once daily in children (age 6-12) and at a dose of 50 mg once daily in adolescents (age 13-17). SB-Serta should be administered once daily, either in the morning or evening.

Side effects

Sertraline may cause side effects like upset stomach, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, dry mouth, loss of appetite, weight changes, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, pain, burning or tingling in the hands or feet, excitement, sore throat etc.

Contraindications

Sertraline is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Sertraline or any of the excipients of drug.

Pregnancy category:  C

When treating a pregnant woman with sertraline during the third trimester of pregnancy, the clinical should carefully consider the potential risks and benefits of such therapy. Consideration may be given to cautiously tapering sertraline therapy in the third trimester prior to delivery if the drug is administered during pregnancy.
