Generic Name: Amlodipine Besylate

Strenght: 5 mg

Composition: Each tablet contains Amlodipine Besylate USP equivalent to Amlodipine 5 mg.

INDICATIONS:

Hypertension

SB-Amlod is indicated for the first line treatment of hypertension. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.

Chronic Stable Angina

SB-Amlod is indicated for the treatment of stable angina.

SB-Amlod may be used alone or in combination with other antianginal agents.

Vasospastic Angina

SB-Amlod is indicated for the treatment of confirmed or suspected vasospastic angina.

SB-Amlod may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antianginal drugs.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

The usual initial antihypertensive oral dose of SB-Amlod is 5 mg once daily with a maximum dose of 10 mg once daily. Small, fragile or elderly individuals or patients with hepatic insufficiency may be started on 2.5 mg once daily dose and this dose may be used when adding SB-Amlod to other                            antihypertensive therapy. Dosage should be adjusted according to each patient’s need. The                 recommended dose for stable or vasospastic chronic angina is 5-10 mg, with the lower dose suggested in the elderly and in patients with hepatic insufficiency.

SIDE EFFECTS:

It is well tolerated. Headache, edema, fatigue, nausea, flushing, dizziness, gum hyperplasia, erythema multiform are reported.

CONTRAINDICATION:

SB-Amlod is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dihydropyridine (e.g. nifedipine, nicardipine, isradipine etc.)

Pregnancy:  Category C. The safety of amlodipine in human pregnancy has not been established. In animal studies, reproductive toxicity was observed at high doses. Use in pregnancy is only recommended when there is no safer alternative and when the disease itself carries greater risk for the mother and fetus.

Lactation: It is not known whether amlodipine is excreted in breast milk. A decision on whether to continue/discontinue breast-feeding or to continue/discontinue therapy with amlodipine should be made taking into account the benefit of breast-feeding to the child and the benefit of amlodipine therapy to the mother
